The Hotel Atrium was designed by Parry and Rosenthal Pty Ltd and is representative of 1970s modern architecture and is a highly visible and well-known landmark. Its construction at the commencement of the 1980s was symbolic of prosperity of the state and reflects the importance of the tourist industry in Mandurah. The hotel opened with 117 rooms in January of 1983.
